In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, three New York City neighborhoods are purchased by the state government, to be demolished, and permanently returned to nature. These waterfront communities are the first in the city to undergo a 'managed retreat' from the ocean, in the face of rising sea levels and climate change. As the seasons change, homes are destroyed, and wild animals begin to return.
