On April 12, 1946 the torso of an unidentified woman of about 50 was discovered in the Willamette River just south of Portland, Oregon. The following day her arms and right thigh were found downstream in Oregon City. In July the left thigh was found in the Clackamas River and finally, in October, the head was found near where the torso had been. Over 70 years later the crime remains unsolved and yet the incident speaks volumes about the female experience in Portland back in the first half of the 20th Century. And while there's little to suggest the crime will ever be solved there's plenty of theories on the matter, theories tied to law enforcement, organized crime, bootlegging, racketeering, scandals infidelity - the works.
