The Chinese term, "sheng nu" means, "leftover women", it refers to women who are successful yet unmarried in their late twenties and beyond. To the rest of the world this may seem harsh, but for millennial Chinese women, it's an all-too-familiar part of daily life in China. A successful Bachelorette, Ying Xiao Le (played by Maggie Qin) is pressured by her parents to get married and on mission to find her Mr. Right. Advised by her friends she goes to the fabled Wishing Tree and makes a wish to find Mr. Right. Suddenly, an old Chinese myth comes true and a series of awkward events follow when four eligible bachelors suddenly fight for her attention and one of them is a childhood friend who's had a crush her since they were kids. In the end, true love wins. And self-love is the best way to find true love. The film explores the clash of modern and tradition views of a woman's role in China. Although China and many other Asian countries, share a long history of conservative views of marriage and a woman's role in the family structure. However, now with China's economic boom, growing body of educated women with financial freedom, women are more free and able to live independently in comparison to the conservative elder generations.
